The Minor Use Foundation is a small non-profit with a global footprint. Their goal is to facilitate research and training, and to set Maximum Residue Limit (MRLs) standards for minor crops such as mango, avocado, and pineapple. As a newer organization, they needed content that explained who they are and how their work has already impacted minor crop farmers and countries globally.

The Goal: Create engaging and informative videos that educate audiences about the non-profit and their mission, and inspire other organizations to get involved.

I acted as consultant and editor on a package of videos for them. I had several meetings to discuss best video production practices (within their budget) and what story we wanted to tell. They traveled to Colombia, Kenya, and Thailand to capture the footage. After receiving the footage, I organized the content and created transcripts of the interviews. Working with the MUF team, I created a storyboard and script as a starting point for each video.

There were several desired deliverables. The first was a longer video that introduced the MUF in the context of one of their specific projects. This video was created to be watched at an event by an audience who already had some interest and knowledge in the topic of food security and sustainable agriculture. After working through this video, we decided it would be best to create shorter videos for general online consumption, focusing more on the location-specific projects and less on MUF.

From these impact stories, I edited several short videos that just focused on a single farmer’s story. These videos were designed to be under 90 seconds, optimized for watching and sharing on social platforms. I also created a two minute explainer video that focused more on MUF, their mission, and their approach. This, combined with the impact videos, gives audiences a full picture without overwhelming them with one long video.

The result was a package of videos optimized for use-case and audience. From event, to hosting on a website, to sharing on social media, each piece drew from the same material to educate and inspire viewers. The content was also used in a board meeting as a powerful tool to demonstrate the impact of the non-profit.
